i think the other person who reviewed these boots was extremely inequitable in their 2 stars given. i just received mine and NO they are not darker than the picture and even if they were, there are many potentially good reasons for that. And their comment about them looking like synthetic is ALL WRONG! i do NOT even own any synthetic shoes, only leather, and leather has MANY, many different looks and feels; dependent upon what animal it came from, how old the animal was, how the leather was processed, etc. These boots are absolutely gorgeous, so much so that my 17 year old daughter has already confiscated them and i have to re-order another pair for myself! Also, we have each worn them once and both times, got innumerable compliments from both genders and all ages! So, take the other person's review with a proverbial pound of salt, if you take it at all! My boots came and I could not wait to get them on. They slid on perfectly, and I did not need to use the zipper at the bottom, as I had on thinner socks. I do know that I can wear heavier socks as the weather gets colder. They do NOT bunch at the ankles at all and talk about comfortable. You can walk in these babies all day and night.
The four buckles near the top look hot.

So far I have worn them with skinny jeans, tunic, black leather coat and scarf. They can be dressed up or down depending on where you are going.

Amazon has the best price for these boots as I researched two other sites before I bought them here. The other sites had them in the tan color for much less, which I do not think is fair. Why should black be more expensive than tan?

These boots are great, and are priced much better than others of similar quality. I disagree with the 2-star review about the color and leather quality - the color is the same as in the picture, maybe a hair darker - never would have thought about color difference if it weren't brough up. They don't look synthetic - it's definitely leather. Highly comfortable for walking - one of these boots you put on and know that you can walk for hours right away without the pain of breaking them in. I usually order either 8.5 or 9, and 8.5 is pretty roomy for me, so if you are undecided about the size order the smaller one.
