I really gave these boots a shot, wearing them on two trips to Alaska. Unfortunately, I have to downgrade my initial rating:

I first wore them on a trip to Anchorage and Fairbanks in March 2011. While they were comfortable and seemed solid (and I rated them well for that), my feet were kept warm mainly due to my heated sock liners and not because of the boots. When the liners were turned off, I could feel the cold radiating up through the boot soles. I thought this might be normal, however someone here (from Alaska) commented that I should not feel the cold coming up through the soles (see comment section).

Before my second trip to Anchorage and Fairbanks in February 2012 I bought a pair of Sorrel insoles which were much thicker and more solid, and inserted them into my Northside boots. If you're looking for a heavy duty, and well just heavy boot in general, this is the pair for you ! It's a deal larger and heavier than what it appears in photo, so i would recommend buying it half a size smaller. I was interested in finding a tough pair of snow boots to get around my college campus and go out in for the occasional day in the snow, but this boot was just way too heavy for any city/town practicality in my opinion. If you're up in the farm, and are looking for something to keep you warm while trekking through snow and slush for the next 100 years, this is definitely a good buy.

These boots are wonderfully constructed and seem as if they would do the job, BUT I ordered a 1/2 size up thinking that I'd wear thick socks with them. The boots are ENORMOUS!!! I am so disappointed to send them back because Amazon is sold out. I have searched the internet and cannot find the same boots anywhere!!
