These boots are true to size. The stars are firmly embedded into the synthetic leather (not glued) and there is a lining inside so the tacs don't protrude into your shin.

The insole is rather, non-existent, shall we say? I may as well be walking on a plank of wood but there is enough room that I can put some inserts. (This is really the only thing that lowered the rating for me.)

The little buckles on the side are real and can be used to adjust the width of the calf, so if you have larger calves (like I do) you should be good to go. I actually didn't even need to adjust them to make them fit, but the option is there if you need it.

When you wear them there is a slight protrusion of the leather between the first and the second buckle. I'm not sure if this will go away as they become softer with wear or not, but it's not terribly noticeable.

I ordered these for my tween, and the second she pulled them out of the box, I needed to buy myself a pair. They were super cheap on sale, so I bought another pair. They are very loose fitting and comfortable. The shaft is not closed! The shaft is open on the side that the buckles are on, as long as they are buckled it will stay shut. A gap opens on the side if you sit in the wrong way, but it is nothing that ruins the usability. They are super cute, comfy, and fit my wide feet as well as my daughters skinny feet.

My wife loved these. She said they were comfortable and warm which is all she was looking for. Price is good too.
