I own a pair of Frye Harness boots that I LOVE. I lusted after the Melissa Riding Tall boots for weeks and then finally took advantage of Amazon's price. Well, I have wide-ish size 9 feet, but I fit into pretty much every shoe I try on. I'm also a bigger gal--size 14/16--so my calves are not slender, but not ginormous, either. There was no way on earth that I could even come close to fitting my foot through the shaft of these boots and into the shoe. I felt like a giant.

Anyway--beautiful boots, but definitely for the slender-of-foot and leg.

When I first saw these boots (the red/brown) I fell in love, but went back and forth on whether to spend the money or not. Well seeing them being sold out at many websites I gave in and ordered them from here because the price was one of the best. I ordered an 8.5 because I'm between an 8-9. They are a bit longer then other shoes I have because of the style of boot. When I got them I took them into a cowboy/riding boot store to have the store see how they fit on my foot. They were perfect. I immediately bought leather protection and silicon spray to protect them.

Having worn them almost every day for a couple weeks they have broken in beautifully. The first couple times they hurt a bit but once the leather stretches to your foot... perfect! I was worried about the shaft opening not being wide enough (my calfs are 14.5" around) but they fit great with room to wear pants under without being tight. They are a little hard to get on so get a good boot shoe horn.

This is my third pair of Fryes. I simply love the boots and these are no exception. My other Fryes are Paige Clovertab and Dorado. This Melissa fits smaller than both Paige and Dorado. I would call them true to size. For those of you who have complained that the heel is too wide and sloppy feeling in the other pull on styles, Melissa might fit the bill for you with the ankle zip they fit the heel and are narrower in the ankle unlike the strictly pull on styles. These were comfortable out of the box for me with an average width foot but very high instep. The leather is a heavy saddle leather and that makes them a little stiffer that my other Fryes but no less comfortable. One word of caution, pay strict attention to the calf width of these. They are quite narrow. I have long legs and average/slim calves and would have just enough room room for skinny jeans, but they are snug worn this way.
