I can only compare these shoes to another pair of Columbia shoes I bought recently. These were way more flexible, light, and less durable-feeling than the other pair. I bought an 8.5 in my other pair and it was a good fit. On this pair, I definitely should have gone with an 8. The top part chafed my ankle and my foot was swimming in the rest of it. And way less arch support than the other pair (a must with my awful flat feet).
