These are not a true lace-up boot, but really just galoshes with glued on eyelets for laces. The front does not open up, as the laces are there just for decoration. I wanted a true lace-up boot for ease of putting on over pants, not a cheap imitation.

Bought these for my daughter for Christmas. I have Kamik boots which I love, but thought she might like boots that had a bit more style. She really liked the Chookas- color, lace up, comfortable. She called me the other day and asked for the reciept- wanted to return the boots because many of the rivets fell out and the rubber was peeling away from the lining. She lives in NYC and only wears them to walk the dog. I wouldn't buy Chookas again.

These Boots were exactly what I expected. I followed the advice of another reviewer and got the next full size up. This may not be necessary for other buyers, and maybe the proper size would have been just as satisfactory- but my boots are comfortable just as they are. I feel no need to exchange them. Warm, dry boots- great price.

*Update* So I wore these at my job on a rainy day. I work in a team setting at a VERY BUSY coffeeshop. It was then that I realized, these boots are perfect for anyone who has a messy (non-hazardous) job. Everyday there's always milk, water, espresso, grinds, and sometimes even chocolate going everywhere. I would go home with my shoes looking truly disgusting, and since my shoes are all cloth shoes there wasnt much i could do about it. Sometimes gross things like milk would seep through the cloth of my shoes and I'd be stuck with moist icky feet. Not really the fun part of my job.
